Rabbi Dan Friedman of Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue in London recently wrote a piece on the idea of covenant in Rabbi Sacks' writing and H. Richard Niebuhr's “The Idea of Covenant in American Democracy.” In light of recent political events, Rabbi Friedman and I were asked to record a podcast on civil discourse and its critical importance in binding the wounds of our society. We consider practical applications for the concepts advanced by Niebuhr and R. Sacks in not “othering” our neighbors.
