We are working to build an enriching and enthusiastic teen community here at Shaarei Shomayim. A centerpiece of our program is the weekly Shabbat minyan led by teen members of our community, followed by a phenomenal teen-only kiddush. We offer special programs beyond the Shabbat morning minyan designed to develop the community through engagement with Judaism, as well as simply having fun times together.
Our teen coordinator is Koby Spiegel, a graduate of the Schulich School of Business at York University. Koby will begin working at Deloitte. Koby himself is a long-time member of the Teen Minyan and brings with him the experience and enthusiasm gained from being a participant in the Teen Minyan.
Koby believes that the importance of a teen minyan lies in its ability to create an atmosphere that allows this age group to get the most out of shul by taking responsibility for the development of their own community. This experience will have a lasting impact far beyond their teen years.
We welcome all teens to join us and to bring their friends each Shabbat morning at 10 a.m. in the Beit Midrash. In addition, look for other great programs geared towards teens, which will be posted here and at our Facebook page.
We are currently looking for an additional teen coodinator. If you are, or know anyone who would be, interested in this position, please contact Rabbi Noah Cheses at RabbiCheses@shomayim.org.
