Shaarei Shomayim is located on the north side of Glencairn, just east of Bathurst Street, in midtown Toronto. The shul is within the community eruv.

Driving Instructions

Coming from the north west: Take 401 east to Allen Rd. south. Take Allen Rd., and exit at Lawrence Ave W. Turn left (east) on Bathurst St. Turn right (south) on Bathurst, to the second stop light. Turn left (east) on Glencairn Ave., and the first building on the left is Shaarei Shomayim.

Coming from the north east: Take 401 west to the Bathurst St. exit. Getting off the ramp, bear right on Wilson Ave. until you come to Bathurst St. Turn right (south), about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) to Glencairn Ave. Turn left (east) on Glencairn Ave., and the first building on the left is Shaarei Shomayim.

Coming from the south: Take Bathurst St. five traffic lights north of Eglinton Ave. W to Glencairn Ave. Turn right (east) on Glencairn, and the first building on the left is Shaarei Shomayim.

Public Transport

The building is serviced by two bus routes:

TTC Bathurst (Route 7) bus runs 24 hours a day along Bathurst Street, and stops at Glencairn Avenue. The synagogue is a 100m walk east of Bathurst.

TTC Glencairn (Route 14) bus stops at Bathurst and Glencairn. The synagogue is a 100m walk east of Bathurst.

Entry to Building

To enter the building during a weekday, use the side or back doors (near the parking lot). Use one of the two intercoms, as required: one intercom is for the synagogue office and the other is for Netivot HaTorah school office.

On Shabbat, holidays or other events, all doors are available. Please be prepared to have your bags inspected by security.

Parking

There is a large parking lot at the rear of the building. The parking lot closes on Friday evening before Sabbath and on the eve of all Holidays and remains locked until the conclusion of the Shabbat or Holiday.

All other times the parking lot has a controlled entrance and exit. During community events or large private functions, the parking lot gate is generally left open.

To enter, drive up to the gate, and it opens automatically.

To exit you will need either:

  • $5 cash (credit cards not accepted)
  • a token (available in the office or at the event you are attending)
  • a fob. The fobs are available at no charge to members, however there is a $25 deposit required which will be refunded upon return of the fob.
