Mazal tov on your engagement!
Planning a wedding is a busy time. Shaarei Shomayim offers guidance as well as a beautiful sanctuary, a large banquet hall, a well appointed bridal room, attentive staff, and many other amenities.
Meet with the Rabbi about your upcoming wedding. Rabbi Strauchler meets with brides and grooms to discuss wedding preparations soon after the engagement. Our synagogue regularly offers marriage classes that focus on developing good relationship skills and instilling spirituality into the wedding. These classes are conducted for groups or for individual couples. We want every chuppah to be special for the bride and the groom and for them to have a relationship with the rabbi that extends beyond their wedding day.
Not only is our recently-renovated (2015) sanctuary one of the most beautiful in the city, but our exquisite chuppah is a work of art. It was created by award-winning artist Temma Gentles. Learn more about the significance of this chuppah.
Chuppah Description: Cotton and silk on bronze scrim Appliqué. It is 244 cm. wide x 244 cm. deep x 350 cm. high (8' x 8' x 11'6"). The metal structure is by David Hunt; bird sculptures by Ken Dubblestyne; integrated lighting by Mark Dougherty.
Designed to be used either in the midst of the congregation or on the bimah, this bronze and gold dome-shaped chuppah becomes a semi-transparent sky hovering above the marriage ceremony. A complex network of stars emerge from rays of God's blessing, and four sculptured birds celebrate. The text, "I will betroth you to me forever," is repeated inside and outside the chuppah in all four directions.
The lobby, washrooms, and outdoor patio were totally renovated in 2015, and are spacious, fresh, and stunning. All entrances and rooms are completely wheelchair accessible -- including the central bimah. In addition, our sound and electrical systems have been upgraded to accomodate just about anything you want to plug in! A permanent outdoor chuppah is available just steps from our front door, next to mature trees, a tall cedar hedge, and a carpet of grass.
